DAILY PRAYER & FASTING

You can check out the Guide for Prayer & Fasting here

DAY ONE

God’s love for us goes beyond what the human mind can comprehend. God wants you to experience that love.

This is Day 1. Keep a journal this week. It may be something you already do or maybe you have never done. It will help to look back on and see what God is doing. Be real and raw when you are writing. If you are struggling or angry, write it down. If you experience something new or something comes to your mind, write it down.

You may be excited and “ready to go” into this fast. You feel like you are right where God wants you to be or maybe you feel overwhelmed, thinking that maybe you can’t do this or that you have taken too much on. Know that God is walking alongside you to give you strength to accomplish what He has called you to do. There are other people walking with you as well. We are fasting to open ourselves up to what God is doing. Focus on his love for you and the people you are praying for.

As you are fasting, please share ways you are seeing God work in your life and the lives of those around you by clicking here!

Read: Matthew 6:25-34.

Journal: Why are you fasting? What are your expectations? What observations and applications come from the Scripture? Write down the names of the people you are praying for this week.

Pray: Pray for God’s love to overwhelm you this week. Pray for strength and encouragement. Pray for the people whose names you wrote down.

DAY TWO

Stay connected. God created us to be relational. He wants a relationship with you but also wants us to be in healthy relationships with other people. We need a support system to build each other up. As you are fasting this week, you may want to find someone to talk to and pray with about your struggles and victories. Knowing that someone else is walking with you through something can be comforting and encouraging.

Read: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and Hebrews 10:23-25

Journal: Take a few minutes and do nothing. Focus on Jesus and then write down any thoughts that come to mind. What observations and applications come from the Scripture? Write down the names of the people you are praying for this week.

Pray: Pray that God would give you the opportunity to encourage and support those around you. Pray for God to bring people into your life for encouragement and support. Pray for the people whose names you wrote down.

DAY THREE

God is good and His love endures forever. His grace and mercy can be overwhelming if you truly open yourself up to what He has to offer. Shame and fear of failure are not places where He wants us to live. While fasting should be a sacrifice and can sometimes be difficult, don’t throw in the towel if you happen to mess up. That’s where Satan wants us to hang out. Fear is a liar, but Christ came and made a way for us to freely receive God’s grace and mercy so that we can live in freedom and not bondage. Don’t focus on what you can’t eat or can’t do. That will keep your mind on the wrong things. Instead, focus on Jesus and who He is.

Read: Romans 5:1-8

Journal: Take a few minutes and sit quietly before God. Focus on Jesus and then write down any thoughts that come to mind. What observations and applications come from the Scripture? Write down the names of the people you are praying for this week.

Pray: Pray for God to take away any shame or fear and replace it with his love and grace.  Pray for the people whose names you wrote down.

DAY FOUR

God has created your mind to be a powerful tool. Solving problems, writing music, learning a new task. What you think about can affect how you feel and even your health. What are you thinking about today? Are you thinking about how much you miss whatever it is you are fasting? About how hard this is? God has challenged us through the apostle Paul to think about good things. Think about him. Think about the people you have been praying for. Think about how much more you love God than whatever it is you are fasting from. Take your thoughts captive. Remember the reason for this fast is a much greater purpose than just not eating or not doing something. Focus your attention on God’s greatness.

Read: Philippians 4:4-9

Journal: Take a few minutes and quietly sit before God. Focus on Jesus and then write down any thoughts that come to mind. What observations and applications come from the Scripture? Write down the names of the people you are praying for this week.

Pray: Pray that God would clear your mind and give you peace. Pray that God will continue to sustain you.Pray for the people whose names you wrote down.

DAY FIVE

We are fasting for a bigger purpose than just ourselves. There are health and spiritual advantages to fasting but that cannot be the goal of our fast. We are fasting for people to realize the love that God has for them and to choose the freedom that Christ has to offer. Freedom to experience the God who loves them unconditionally and has promised to empower, protect, and provide.

Read: 1 John 3:16-18 and 2 Corinthians 5:14-21

Journal: Take a few minutes and sit quietly with God. Focus on Jesus and then write down any thoughts that come to mind. What observations and applications come from the Scripture? Write down the names of the people you are praying for this week.

Pray: Pray today to see people through the eyes of God and a heart to love them like he loves us. Pray for the people whose names you wrote down. Pray that God will open opportunities for you to be the light of Christ in their lives.

DAY SIX

In business, it is important to know what is happening. Taking regular inventory of resources, procedures, and the heartbeat of your company helps to see where you have been but more importantly, to dream and plan for the future. Look back through your journal from this week. What are some of the thoughts you wrote down? Did God speak to you this week? Think about the people that you are praying and fasting for. While God is the only one who can heal and save, what can you do to help them to experience his love?

Jesus regularly went off alone to pray. I encourage you to keep the time that you have set apart for this fast and continue spending time with God in prayer, reading, and journaling.

Read: Isaiah 43:18-19 and Philippians 3:7-14

Journal: Take a few minutes and sit quietly before God. Focus on Jesus and then write down any thoughts that come to mind. What observations and applications come from the Scripture? Write down the names of the people you are praying for this week.

Pray: Thank God for who He is and anything else you are thankful for. Pray that you can come alongside Him and carry His light into the darkness. Pray for the people whose names you wrote down.
